Last Sunday, September 8th, the feast of the Nativity
of Mary, the parish of Dulce Nombre de María celebrated its feast day.
For many years, the parish has celebrated September 8 as its
feast, although the actual feast of the Holy Name of Mary is on September 12.
There was an early morning musical celebration – to wake
everyone up – at about 6:00 am. I didn’t make it this year since my car had a
major problem on Saturday which I got fixed by about 4:30 pm. But I decided to
stay in Santa Rosa and leave in the morning.
I got to the church at about 8:00 am and walked with Padre
German and others to the edge of town to begin the procession.
About 300 people walked in the procession together with cars
with the images of Mary from six of the parish’s churches: Concepción,
Candelaria, Plan Grande, Dolores, San Agustin, and Dulce Nombre. The floats
were decorated with flowers, balloons, and more.

A band from Santa Rosa played during the procession.
When we got to the church, we gathered around the front of
the church and there were two dance groups: children from Dulce Nombre and young
people from San Agustín.
Mass began with the entry of several of the statues into the
church.
During the Prayer of the Faithful Padre German offered a
special prayer of the sister parish of St. Thomas Aquinas in Ames, Iowa.
During the offertory procession, a little girl brought up a rosary.
At the
end of Mass, prayer cards with an image of a Dulce Nombre parish statue, were provided
as the people left the church.

It was a great day to celebrate the gift of this parish.
